HIT to hold Valentine's Day fundraiser

IRONWOOD - The Historic Ironwood Theatre is taking a new more intimate direction in fundraising starting with a Valentine's Day event on Friday evening.

Patrons can enjoy a special dinner at Sharon's East Wing in Hurley from 4 to 8 p.m., followed by music, singing, champagne and chocolates at the theater from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

"We encourage people to grab a glass of champagne and walk around and catch some music and visit with people," said Zona Wick, president of the Historic Ironwood Theatre Board. "Just enjoy the evening."

The event includes Tim Mesun on the grand piano, who will be joined by Yazmin, for more musical ambience. They will also be joined by guest vocalists, Desiree, Vivian and Lahtida.

In the mezzanine, volunteers will offer a variety of champagnes and special handmade chocolates by Yooper Delights. Kelly's cash bar and the concession stand will also be open.

The event is informal but Valentine's Day fans are invited to dress up as they please, all the way to tuxedos and evening gowns.

Wick said the theater board had previously organized a big annual fundraiser called "The Big HIT." That required a lot of people and a lot of time and energy, she said.

"This year were are going with smaller fundraisers instead," Wick said.

The first smaller fundraiser in January raised money through V.I.P. tickets to the recent "ABBA Mania" show. The proceeds went to the theater's new sound system.

These new state-of-the-art $70,000 sound system allows the sound to be distributed more evenly throughout the theater, Wick said.
