Roundabout public meeting scheduled

RHINELANDER, Wis. — Staff of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation regional office will hold a public meeting in Hurley on two projects affecting U.S. 51 and U.S. 2.

The meeting is Thursday, Feb. 27 from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at the Iron County Courthouse, 300 Taconite Street in Hurley. The public is encouraged to attend.

The proposed U.S. 2 rehabilitation project includes removing the existing overhead structure at the Hurley intersection of U.S. 2 and U.S. 51 and replacing it with a roundabout. WisDOT staff will discuss the project and request feedback on traffic management during construction. A presentation on safely navigating roundabouts will be given in the county boardroom.

The second project involves the proposed rehabilitation of U.S. 2 from County B to the Michigan state line in Iron County, Wisconsin. This includes culvert pipe replacements and removing two inches of existing pavement and replacing it with four inches of new asphalt.

The meeting facility is wheelchair accessible. Deaf or hard of hearing persons needing assistance should dial 711 to contact the Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay system. For other accommodations to participate, contact Dan Erva at 715-365-5776.
