Anna Mae Vukovich

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Anna Mae Vukovich, 94, of Ironwood, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020, at the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital in Ironwood.

She was born on April 28, 1925, in Ironwood to David and Anna (Petrusha) Breen. She attended school in Ironwood and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1943. She attended several classes at Gogebic Community College in Ironwood.

Ann married Emil Vukovich Jr. of Bessemer in 1947 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood.

She worked at the Daily Globe in Ironwood for seven years as a social editor.

Ann was an active member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Gogebic Country Club for more than 60 years. When she was younger, she loved to bowl and was a member of a local league. Ann also loved to play Bridge and was still playing Bridge up to this February.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Anna Breen; husband, Emil; son, Kevin; brother, Jack Breen; and special friend, Paul Nechak.

Ann is survived by her sons, Chuck (Cindy) and Brian (Diane) Vukovich, both of Ironwood; daughter, Nancee (Richard) DaRonco, of Ironwood, nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Becky Vukovich; sister-in-law, Joan Breen, of Arlington, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood at a later date.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.

A big thank you goes out to Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood, Villa Maria Nursing Home in Hurley, Wisconsin, and the ICU at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital. Mom was well taken care of.
