BESSEMER TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Carol Jean (Thomas) Cocking, 72, of Bessemer Township, passed away peacefully at home of natural causes on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.
She was born on April 5, 1947, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Charles and Lucille (Barnecott) Thomas. Carol was raised in Hurley, Wisconsin, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School, class of 1965. She spent much of her life in the food service industry working for various establishments including St. Sebastian Catholic School, Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort, and Red Arrow Boys Summer Camp.
Carol was a woman of grit who truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures such as talking with friends and family, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her best skills were displayed in the kitchen where she baked up love in double batches.
She was united in marriage to James John Cocking on July 18, 1981, in Bessemer.
Carol is survived by her husband, James, of Bessemer Township; son, James Jr. (Alpha) Cocking, of Tokyo, Japan; daughters, Kristi Cocking, of Neenah, Wisconsin, Karee Cocking, of Geronimo, Oklahoma, Jennifer (Adam) Zak, of Bessemer, and Kymberly Cocking, of Bessemer Township; grandchildren, Allyson and Carter Cocking of Tokyo, Japan, and Viviana Zak, of Bessemer; brother, Dennis (Jane) Thomas, of Black Creek, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lucille (Barnecott) Thomas; brother, Charles Thomas; and niece, Shelley (Thomas) Johnson.
Per Carol's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are being held. A private interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer, at a later date.
The family would like to thank Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc. in Wakefield, for assisting the family with arrangements.
