Man held in Bessemer shooting

BESSEMER — One man is in jail and another in the hospital following a Wednesday night shooting in Bessemer, according to a press release from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday.

A 26-year-old Bessemer man was arrested without incident at approximately 11 p.m., after he allegedly shot and wounded another 26-year-old man late Wednesday evening in the city of Bessemer, according to the news release.

The shooting victim was transported by Beacon Ambulance Service to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital, where he is reportedly being treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.

The suspect is currently being held at the Gogebic County Jail where he faces numerous charges to be filed by the Gogebic County Prosecutor’s Office.

The arrest was for felonious assault with intent to murder, aggravated domestic assault, felony firearm, possession of a short-barreled firearm, possession and discharge of a firearm while under the influence of an intoxicant, and possession of metallic knuckles.

The bond for the suspect was set at $100,000 cash. He was expected to be arraigned on Thursday in Gogebic County District Court.

The press release said the shooting was an isolated incident. The public is not considered to be in further danger stemming from the shooting.

Michigan State Police also responded to the scene.
