Harold "Beans" Hallberg

LAKE GOGEBIC, Mich. - Harold "Beans" Hallberg, 73, a longtime resident of Lake Gogebic, passed away Tuesday April, 21, 2020, at his home.

Beans was born on Sept. 19, 1946, in Bessemer Township, son of the late Harold and Mary (DeCur) Hallberg. He graduated in 1964 from Wakefield High School.

On Nov. 8, 1969, Beans married Judith A. Janov at Christ the King Catholic Church in Ramsay.

Beans is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Judy; their children, Michele "Mickey" (Phil) Hallberg, Waconia, Minnesota, and Mark (Sonia) Hallberg, Rolling Meadows, Illinois; an aunt, Julia Bruno, Escanaba; an uncle, Alan (JoAnn) Hallberg, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and many friends.

Besides his parents, Beans was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis.

Beans attended Gogebic Community College and was drafted in 1966. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army until 1968 stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, and was honorably discharged.

In 1969, Beans started his career as a police officer in Bayside, Wisconsin, and proudly served for 30 years. Capt. Hallberg retired in January 2000.

Beans and Judy returned to the Upper Peninsula to enjoy their retirement where he continued to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, hunting and fishing on beautiful Lake Gogebic.

Beans enjoyed time with family and especially his faithful four-legged companions. He never ventured far from the lake always looking forward to the ice going out and coffee conversations with good neighbors and friends.

A kind and respected man, Beans was always willing to lend a hand and loved by all that knew him. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the VA Hospital in Milwaukee and Iron Mountain, Aspirus Ironwood Hospital and Regional Hospice Services for their wonderful and compassionate care over the last three years. Also, thank you to Jerald Rocco for his kindness and compassion.

Due to the current situation with COVID-19, a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
