Hurley - The Iron County Museum will open for the summer season, next week, with a few adjustments for the new normal.

The museum will open to visitors beginning Monday, said Kristin Kolesar, board treasurer of the Iron County Museum. The decision to open was made recently made after consultation with the Iron County Health Department regarding requirements for COVID-19 policies and procedures.

"We encourage area residents and guests to visit the museum this summer," Kolesar said. "The museum has three floors of exhibits, so there is plenty of space for social distancing. Our museum is family friendly, including a scavenger hunt for children. Please consider supporting the museum by visiting us, purchasing our woven rugs, runners, or placemats, or making a donation."

Museum hours will remain 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. All guests will be required to wear masks, which will be available for $1 to anyone who does not have one.

Guests must enter through the front door on Iron Street. A sanitation station will be set up near the entrance.

Visitor parking is on the street. The parking lot behind the museum is used for senior meal pick-up until 12:30 p.m.

Guests may stay with their own family group, but need to practice social distancing around other visitors and volunteers. Guests may not touch any museum surfaces.

Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic concerns, the museum will not plan or host any special events, activities, exhibits or displays this summer, Kolesar said.

"We are following suit as a lot of annual events were canceled," she said. "We want to do our part to protect the community as well."
