WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Mary Ann Modjewski, 88, a lifelong resident of Bessemer, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2020, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.
She was born on Jan. 5, 1932, in Bessemer, the daughter of David Henry and Florence (Becker) Brydges. Mary Ann attended local schools and graduated from A. D. Johnston High School with the class of 1949.
On June 6, 1953, she married Joseph Modjewski and was his devoted wife for 64 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Florence Brydges; husband, Joseph; brothers, Roy (Rae) and Donald (Maureen) Brydges; sisters, Ruth (Orval) Prudhomme, Nina (Jack Lyons and Donald Kerstein), and Shirley Brydges; brother-in-law, Ray Sokolowski; and sister-in-law Margaret Balzell.
Mary Ann is survived by her beloved children, Roy (Pat) Modjewski, Michael (Lori) Modjewski, Mary Jo (Steve) Welch, and Ann Marie Brown; grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda) Brown, Emily (Gavin) Haasl, Craig (Meredith) Modjewski, Matthew (Erin) Modjewski, and Mark Modjewski; great-grandchildren, Riley, Nora, Hazel, and Joe; sister, Barbara Sokolowski; brother-in-law, John (Laura) Modjewski; and numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her with great affection.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer on Tuesday, June 23, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Dominic Agyapong as celebrant, preceded by a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.
