Hurley - The Iron County Health Department released two additional locations in Iron County Thursday where someone who tested positive for COVID-19 was present while positive.

"(The announcement) is not intended to lay blame on anyone who tests positive (people may not have symptoms during their period of communicability and may not know they are sick), any local businesses, or other locations identified," a health department spokesperson said in the announcement.

According to the department, it can confirm there were people with COVID-19 at The Pines in Mercer from 4 to 10 p.m. July 17, and Lazy Ace in Mercer from 4 to 8:30 p.m. July 10 and 7:30 to 9 p.m. July 11.

Both locations were deemed to have a "low risk exposure," according to the announcement.

Anyone who has been at either of the establishments is asked to monitor their symptoms and isolate themselves while calling their health care provider if symptoms develop.

The health department also announced one additional case of COVID-19 in the county Thursday, bringing the county's total to 42 since the presence of the coronavirus in the county in late March. Twenty-three of those cases are considered recovered.

The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department also released its latest COVID-19 figures Thursday, including a second positive case in Ontonagon County. The first was announced July 4.

Thursday's announcement lists 42 cases and six probables in Gogebic County, 34 positives and five probables in Houghton County, five in Baraga County and two in Keweenaw County for a total of 85 positive cases and 11 probables in the five-county region the WUPHD serves. Twenty-four of the 85 cases are considered recovered, including six in Gogebic County.

Although the WUPHD has said it will only be reporting totals on Mondays and Thursdays because of the increased volume of cases, data on the state's coronavirus website lists 42 cases and six probables in Gogebic County Friday morning.
