FENTON, Mich. — Lola Jaakkola, age 89, formerly of Bruce Crossing, passed away on July 22, 2020, in Fenton.
Her Legacy — Lola was born on April 11, 1931, in Marquette, to Lawrence and Carmen (Comstock) Ewing. Lola married Francis (Bill) Jaakkola, on Aug. 10, 1957, in Marquette, and they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in 2009. Lola graduated from Northern Michigan University, and was a teacher for many years at the Ewen-Trout Creek Consolidated Schools where she taught home economics. She was active in her Bruce Crossing community, was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, and loved Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Lola will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her Family — Lola will be missed by her daughter, Kerry (Terry) Nisbett, Fenton; grandchildren, Maria Williquette (Indra Gunasekara), Portland, Oregon, Michelle (Jim) Koerner, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Mark (Kylee) Williquette, Green Bay, Jason (Alana) Nisbett, Southgate, and Kirsten (Matt) Boutorwick, Royal Oak; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Sophia Koerner, Pasha and Priya Gunasekara, and Benjamin and Emery Nisbett. She is also survived by her siblings, Daniel Ewing of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Larry Ewing of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Jaakkola; daughter, Myrna Williquette; and sister, Leslie Ewing.
Her Farewell — Lola’s community farewell will be held on Monday, July 27, at 6 p.m. at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Lamb Chapel in Howell, with a gathering beginning at 5 p.m. until the time of service. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date, and will take place in Bruce Crossing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Ewen-Trout Creek School District Scholarship Fund.
