Bernard 'Bunsie' McQuiggin

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Bernard "Bunsie" McQuiggin, 87, a lifelong resident of Ironwood, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020, at home. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Bunsie was born on Oct. 25, 1932, in Ironwood, a son of John S. and Margaret C. (Perrero) McQuiggin. He attended St. Ambrose High School and graduated in 1950.  Bunsie continued his education at Gogebic Community College.

He proudly served his country in the Michigan Army National Guard.

On Aug. 31, 1957, Bunsie was united in marriage to the love of his life, Margaret "Marge" Pertile at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

His hobbies included golf, bowling, baseball, softball, basketball, football, playing cribbage, throwing horseshoes and going to the casino.

Bunsie was employed for a short time at White Pine Copper Company. Then, he was a lineman for Lake Superior District Power Company and Northern States Power.

Bunsie is survived by a son, John (Mason), Redford; three daughters, Karen Mewbourn, Ironwood, Nancy Pufall, Ashland, Wisconsin, and LeeAnn (Tom) Warren, Mellen, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, James Pufall, Joe Mewbourn, Amy Pufall, Ashley Mewbourn, David (Lyndi) Pufall and Sara Hultman; a great-grandson, Tim Mullen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Marge, on Feb. 16, 2010; his son-in-law, Chris Mewbourn, in 2018; two grandchildren, Ryan Mewbourn and Stacy Hultman; two brothers, Jack and Bob; and three sisters, Marguerite Nelson, Dolores Harris and Joan Braghini.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 108 S. Marquette St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Binu Joseph, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no family visitation inside the church prior to the Mass. Masks are required and please practice safe social distancing.

Following the cemetery service, family and friends are invited to Bunsie's home to celebrate his life from 2 to 5 p.m.
