DULUTH, Minn. — Rome Jacomo Collura, newborn son of James Collura and Lanina Oja, of Ironwood, Michigan, died unexpectedly after his birth on Monday Aug. 24, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.
Rome was born at 37 weeks, and weighed 4 pounds 15.5 ounces and was 18 inches long. Though Rome did not survive long enough to meet his entire family, he was loved greatly and touched many lives.
Rome was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents Brancy and Steve Collura and James Makinen, his maternal great-grandparents Faythe and Joseph Kasper and Wilbert and Betty Oja, and his uncle Lucas Oja.
In addition to his parents, Rome is survived by his big brothers Jace and Joel Collura; paternal grandparents Gena Vargovich (Jerry Olson) and Richard Makinen; maternal grandparents Gary and Rose Oja; aunts and uncles Paige Vargovich, Mitchell Vargovich, Nathan Makinen, Raquelle Makinen, Taylor Makinen, Kaylee Makinen, Peyton Makinen, Mitchell Makinen, Melinda Tijan, Gary Oja, Daniel Oja, Matthew (Courtney) Oja, Benjamin (Erin) Oja, Elisha (Robert) Vicente, Sonia (Aaron) Bries, Annissa (Jake) Schwartz, Lily Oja, and Tia Oja; and numerous great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins.
Cremation has taken place.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you hug your children and be grateful for the time that we are given with each other.
A memorial service will be held outdoors at the Airport Park Pavilion in Ironwood Township on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020 at noon.
