Dale R. Kangas

IRON RIVER, Mich. — Dale R. Kangas, 87, of Ironwood, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital.

He was born in Iron County, Wisconsin, son of the late John and Jean (Johanna Rokola) Kangas. Dale lived in Lansing, until his returning to Ironwood upon retirement. He received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in June 1955.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironwood. Dale was also a member of the Gogebic Range Community Band. He held leadership roles in church, as an usher, council leader, lay reader, cantor, choir, and with the Kids Club, where he was known as the “Popcorn Man.” He enjoyed camping, woodworking and travel.

He is survived by two sons, David C. Kangas and Brian S. Kangas, his daughter, Donna (Cary) Gustafson; four grandchildren, John Gustafson, and Adrian (Francisco), Justin and Dan Kangas; and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his companion, Virginia Kretschmar.

Dale is preceded in death by his wife, Myrna Kangas, in 2005.

At the request of Dale’s family, services will be private.
