Ronald 'Ron' J. Kangas

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Ronald "Ron" J. Kangas, 77, of Prescott Valley, formerly of Tucson, Kenosha, Wisconsin and Ramsay, Michigan, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, with his cousin by his side.

Ron was an only child born to John and Elsie (Kujala) Kangas on June 30, 1943, in Wakefield, Michigan. He was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Wakefield in 1958 and also graduated from Ramsay School in that same year. Ron started his high school years at A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer, Michigan and attended there until 1959 when his family moved to Tucson. He was a student at Catalina High School and graduated on June 8, 1961.

After attending Arizona State University where he studied business administration, Ron joined the U.S. Navy in 1965 and proudly served his country until 1967. He was stationed in Spain and worked in construction for the Navy.

Upon his return, Ron worked with his dad and in other various positions in Arizona. He secured a job with Snap-On Incorporated in Kenosha in 1973 where he worked for most of his career.  Ron received many awards for dependability. He was certified as an engineer for steam boilers for the city of Kenosha. Ron retired from Snap-On in 2003, but he didn't stop working. He started a tree trimming business in Kenosha and enjoyed working outdoors. His health eventually forced him to stop working.

Ron enjoyed life and was liked by all who knew him. We could count on him coming to the U.P. for holidays to visit friends and family, especially during the Fourth of July.  He loved his fish fry at the Legion, spaghetti feeds at the VFW and eating out in general.  He liked big equipment and loved his dump truck. He loved to support the American Legions and VFW posts in the areas he lived. He traveled to Arizona every winter in his later years and his health forced a permanent move there in 2016. He lived in the family home in Tucson until 2018 when he moved to the Prescott area to be closer to his family.

No funeral service is scheduled at this time. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.

In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, please donate to your local American Legion or VFW.

Arrangements are entrusted to Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield.
