John William "Bill" Kubiak

MOUNDS VIEW, Minn. - John William "Bill" Kubiak, 93, was born in Ashland, Wisconsin, in 1927 and passed away Sept. 19, 2020, at the Bel Rae Senior Community in Mounds View.

Bill graduated from Hurley High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served stateside during World War II as a medical corpsman in San Diego, California. At the end of the war he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received a degree in aeronautical engineering. Bill had a lifelong passion for designing, building and flying model airplanes.

In 1950, he married the former Mary Grace Snell of Ironwood. They eventually settled in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where they raised their family.

Bill is survived by sisters, Kathleen Miljevich of Wakefield, Michigan, and Ina Rae Dowrick of Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin; his children, Kim Radcliffe (Ron Olson), John D. Kubiak (Melody), and Sam Kubiak; as well as grandchildren, Kate and Elizabeth Radcliffe, and Teigan and Jeremiah Kubiak, all of metropolitan Minneapolis.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hurley, Wisconsin.
