Mary Anne Thurow

SAXON, Wis. - Mary Anne Thurow, 84, a lifelong resident of Saxon, began her next adventure on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, surrounded by her family in her crooked little house filled with colors and love.

Mary Anne was born at home in Saxon, July 11, 1936, to her late parents George and Lillian (Niemi) Sullivan. In 1954, she graduated from Saxon High School as valedictorian and went on to college receiving her teaching certificate.

While owning and operating Peace Valley Ranch in Saxon, she proudly followed in the footsteps of her Uncle Bucky as an agent for Northern Finnish Mutual Town Insurance Company. Mary Anne retired after working in the office at the Iron County Highway Department. She was an active member and the treasurer of the Saxon-Gurney Community Church.

Mary Anne loved to travel. Her adventures took her to all corners of the United States and extended on to Europe and South America via plane, train, car, bus and Willie. She always enjoyed returning home to be near her family where she loved babysitting and hosting large family gatherings. Well known as a great cook, you name it, Mary Anne could cook it. She adored visiting with her brother at the Driftwood Inn and enjoyed his famous "Eddy Burger." Her favorite pastimes included playing cards and dice, often holding titles for Yahtzee Champion and Farkle Queen.

Mary Anne surrounded herself with beautiful flowers from her garden and in recent years she renewed her connection with Weber Lake. She left us with a lifetime of cherished memories and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, Mary Anne was preceded in death by her siblings, Johnny Sullivan, Dorothy (Marvon) Marchant, Jerry (Anna) Sullivan, Margie (George) Hallisey and Dan (Barbara) Sullivan; grandson, Oliver Krall; and son-in-law, Alaric Patterson.

Survivors include a brother, Edward (Judy) Sullivan of Saxon; and children, Kelly (Nancy) Thurow of Saxon, Kurt (Margaret) Krall of Saxon, Tim (Tara) Krall of Saxon, Carla Krall of Hayward, Keri Jo (Kevin) Ellis of Spring Hill, Florida, and George (Vince) Thurow of Austin, Texas. Precious grandchildren include Tracy (Tony) Trolla, Wendy (Dan) Tibaldo, Tabitha (Cody) Slygh, Rachelle (Brad) McCullough, Karl (Nicole) Krall, Kasey (Jenni) Krall, Nik Krall, Tim (Andrea) Krall, Dayne Stuhr and Brooke Ellis. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, numerous nieces and nephews, and beloved great-niece, Katie Galarno.

Special thanks to the team at Avanti Home Care, Home Medical, Regional Hospice Services, Les Ritzert, granddaughter Tabitha Slygh, great-granddaughter Kelsey Krall, niece and nephew Diane and Randy Galarno, and especially her son George for providing exceptional care which allowed Mary Anne to remain comfortably in her home.

Honoring Mary Anne's wishes, cremation has taken place. She asked that no services be held but for friends and family to safely gather with loved ones and enjoy a delicious meal together in her memory.
