Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Hazelhurst, will return to Washington to represent Iron County and the rest of the 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives after he won his bid for his first full term in Tuesday’s general election.

The result of Tuesday’s election was just as familiar as the names as Tiffany defeated Tricia Zunker, the same Democrat he bested in a special election earlier this year to serve the remainder of former Rep. Sean Duffy’s term in office.

Tiffany received 2,397 votes in Iron County Tuesday to Zunker’s 1,542. Rhinelander-based public radio station WXPR reported Tuesday night that with 96% of precincts reporting, Tiffany received 238,192 votes, or 61% of the votes, in the district that encompasses much of northern Wisconsin, to Zunker’s 152,388 votes.

In the May special election, Tiffany received 109,594 votes cast in the election, with 81,931 votes cast for Zunker, winning 57% of the vote in the district. He received 1,134 votes in Iron County to Zunker’s 882 votes in the county in the May special election.
