Hurley — The Hurley Police Department will support the Iron County Health Department and Wisconsin National Guard in conducting a public COVID-19 drive-thru testing event at the Hurley Fire Department on Tuesday, Dec. 8.

In his report to the Police Fire and License Committee at its Monday meeting, HPD Sgt. Justin Colossaco said that the department provided support for a previous testing event. People will drive through the fire hall truck bay from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for testing in their vehicles and can visit the health department’s Facebook page for more information.

There are no officers currently infected or quarantined for COVID-19, he said.

The department will also be supporting the Hurley Area Chamber of Commerce in running its first “Hometown Christmas” parade from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, in the Hurley Industrial Park, Colossaco said. The drive-thru parade will have the public viewing stationary parade exhibits at the industrial park by driving in from County Road C and then moving west on Wisconsin 77.

Colossaco said the department was notified to expect delivery of a new squad vehicle soon that was on order since 2019. It will replace a squad vehicle to be taken out of service and placed on bid for auction downstate, he said.
