Edith A. Kaari

HURLEY, Wis. — Edith A. Kaari, 99, of Hurley passed away on Dec. 26, 2020, at the Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.

Edith was born on Feb. 9, 1921, in Gurney, the daughter of Thomas and Annie (Mushal) Baribeau. She attended school in Curry, Wisconsin, and graduated from Saxon High School in 1939.

She dairy farmed for many years and was an assembly worker for Simpson Electric in Mercer for 27 years, retiring in 1985.

Edith married Oscar Kaari on Aug. 10, 1940, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Saxon. He preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 1966.

She was a strong and independent woman. She was a member of the Kimball Homemakers and the Iron County Credit Union. She loved baking, gardening, playing cards, quilting, knitting afghans, going to the casino, and enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren.

Edith is survived by her sons, Gene (Lois) Kaari of Silver Bay, Minnesota, and Clifford (Sandra) of Cudahy, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Alan (Theresa) Kaari of Chicago City, Minnesota, Steven (Darlene) Kaari of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Christine (Terry) Cleveland of Savage, Minnesota, Paul (Kathryn) Kaari of Stillwater, Minnesota, Daniel Kaari of Oakfield, Wisconsin, and Kevin (Lori) Kaari of Mukwonago, Wisconsin; nine great-grandchildren, Eric, Jennifer, Lucas, Vanessa, Bridget, Elizabeth, Alicia, Jamie and Nicholas; brother, Arthur Baribeau of Saxon; brother-in-law, Jack Obremski of Clauson, Michigan; and special friends and caretakers, Vic and Zona.

She is preceded in death by sisters, Lillian Trembly, Hazel Obremski and Marie Bott; brother, Thomas Baribeau; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Baribeau.

A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2021.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hurley.
