Charlene N. (Ostlund) Synkelma

HURLEY, Wis. - Charlene N. (Ostlund) Synkelma, 83, of Ironwood passed away on Jan. 6, 2021, at the Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley

She was born on Jan. 14, 1937, in Ironwood, the daughter of Carl S. and Clara (Beare) Ostlund. She attended local schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1955. Following graduation, she was employed as a secretary at the A.L. Norrie School in Ironwood.

On Aug. 15, 1959, Charlene married Robert A. Synkelma at the Newport Methodist Church in Ironwood. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2014. They lived in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, Zion, Illinois, Kenosha, Wisconsin and returned to Ironwood in 1965.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood. She enjoyed shopping trips and concerts, but especially loved her trips to Copper Harbor and other Lake Superior destinations, Nashville, Tennessee, Florida, and trips out west. She also loved dancing in her earlier years going to places with her husband such as Bingo's in Wakefield

Charlene is survived by her children, Robin R. (Jeffrey) Johnson of Washburn, Kimberly J. (Scott) Jaeger of Ironwood and Terry S. Synkelma of Ironwood; grandchildren, Dana M. (John) Welch of Marshfield, Christopher B. Johnson of Washburn and Alyssa N. (Chris) Hahn of Merrill; stepgrandchildren, Stefanie Jaeger of Superior, Stacie (Brownlow) Jaeger of Wisconsin Rapids, and Bryan Jaeger of Madison; and great-grandchildren, Vera M. Welch, and Myles and Holden Brownlow.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Clara Ostlund; husband, Robert; and grandson, Ryan J. Johnson.

Due to COVID-19, no service will be held at this time.
