MONTREAL, Wis. — The city of Montreal now has a replacement for city clerk Sue Lesky when she retires this spring after the Montreal Common Council voted to offer the job to office assistant Lori Genisot Tuesday.

“Lori brings a wealth of knowledge to the position and history within the city of Montreal,” Mayor Erik Guenard told the Daily Globe Wednesday. “We’re lucky to have her.”

He added that Genisot accepted the position when he contacted her and that the city is expecting to hire someone to fill the water and sewer position that Genisot currently occupies.

In December, Lesky announced she was planning to retire in April and was notifying the council then so there was time to select and train a replacement.

“Working with you and the rest of the staff has been a highly fulfilling experience for me and I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to be with the city of Montreal for the last 18 years,” Lesky wrote in a letter to Guenard and the city’s common council announcing her decision. “This year has certainly been a challenge and has made me realize it’s time to spend more time with my family.”

At the time, Lesky had recommended Genisot as her replacement.

In other action, the council:

—Discussed the development of a skating rink near the historical marker at city hall. Work has gotten underway on making the rink, according to information presented at the meeting, with the hope that the colder weather expected next week will help build a good base for the ice.

—Heard an update on the Community Development Block Grant income surveys. Lesky said she received about half the surveys back already and was looking for guidance on what to do about the remainder. The surveys are needed to determine if the city qualifies for CDBG funding for various water, sewer and street projects.

—Granted a variance to allow Kurt Nasi to build a garage on the empty lot he owns across the street from his home.

—Reached a consensus to seek bids for a new lawnmower, but didn’t feel a formal motion was necessary.
