IRONWOOD, Mich. - John W. Landahl, 79, of Ironwood, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.
John was born the son of Wallace and Marjorie (Carlson) Landahl in Minneapolis, on May 20, 1941. He was a high school graduate of Robbinsdale High School. John was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, and he served on the Samuel B. Roberts ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis from 1959 to 1963.
On Aug. 29, 1970, he was united in marriage with Karen Sibley in Wakefield at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Together they lived in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota, for 24 years where John was a senior coordinator for Inland Steel Mining Co. in Virginia, Minnesota, retiring in March 1997. They both returned to Ironwood in 2002 to be closer to family.
John was a life member of the American Legion in Ironwood and the Wakefield VFW. He and Karen enjoyed taking trips and camping in their motor home. John loved music; and he played the drums and sang in the band, "Big John and the Bad Men." John also enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, and sitting on his patio in summer watching the birds and squirrels.
John will be missed by his wife of 50 years, Karen; two sons, David (Debbie Carlson) Landahl and Jeffrey Landahl; daughter, Deborah Landahl Kokely; his sister, Sandra (Robert) Almquist; grandchildren, Tyler Landahl, Nathan Kokely, Brooke Landahl, Brendan Landahl and Kortney Offenhauser; and two great-grandchildren. John is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Beverly Kabo.
At this time no formal services will take place. Spring inurnment will take place at Riverside Cemetery with the Ironwood American Legion conducting military honors.
