MSP Wakefield to host drug take back

Wakefield — The Michigan State Police-Wakefield post is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Agency to host a national prescription drug take back day event today from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The event provides citizens with the opportunity to dispose of all unwanted, unused, or outdated prescription pills they may have, according to a press release.

The public is asked to bring back any unused prescription pills to the MSP post so that they can be properly disposed of. There is a green bin set up in the lobby of the police station to collect pills.

“We can take all pills,” said Sgt. James Revoyr of the MSP. “We can’t take any needles, no patches, nothing like that.”

According to Revoyr there has been an “uptick” in prescription drug abuse in the area, but could not specify the number of cases.

“We’re just seeing more and more of it,” he said.

Disposing of outdated medications at the MSP post will help prevent drug misuse, overdoses, and possible deaths, according to the release.

Revoyr said that the Wakefield post also offers the opportunity for citizens to dispose of old prescription medications Monday – Friday year round.
