Lloyd G. Hill

BESSEMER, Mich. - Lloyd G. Hill, 94, a lifelong resident of Bessemer, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1926, in Bessemer, son of the late Oscar and Edith (Reed) Hill. Lloyd attended the Barber School in Yale and the Washington School in Bessemer. He graduated from A.D. Johnston High School.

After graduation, Lloyd worked various jobs. He was employed at the Republic Steel Company in Ironwood from 1949 to 1952. Lloyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Upon completion of his service, he worked in the mining industry. He spent the majority of his years of employment working at the White Pine Copper Company.

Lloyd was a faithful member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church. He was a devoted husband and father, and always put others needs above his own. He had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with family and friends.

Lloyd enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting and camping. He was a talented carpenter and was well known for his homemade snowshoes. Lloyd was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports, especially boxing and football. His favorite team was the Green Bay Packers.

On July 7, 1951, Lloyd married Marilyn Susan Jacisin at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. She preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 2012.

Survivors include his three children, Dennis, Wakefield, Susan, Bessemer, and Ray, Dover, New Hampshire; a sister, Beverly (Ken) Wuorinen, Bloomington, Minnesota; his brother-in-law, Kenneth Maki, Hurley, Wisconsin; his sister-in-law, Penny Jacisin, Ironwood; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Lloyd was preceded in death by a son, Glen, on April 30, 2020; three sisters, Florence "Dolly" Schwartz, Margaret "Margie" Maki and Gladys Valerie Higgins; and two brothers, Earl and Wilbert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 25, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10:30 a.m., at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 210 E. Iron St., in Bessemer, with the Rev. Binu Joseph, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.
