WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Patricia L. Pensala, 85, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
Patricia was born on Nov. 21, 1935, in Wakefield, the daughter of John William and Linnea Susannah (Autio) Makela. She attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1954.
Patricia married Rueben Nurmi and they raised four children. Later, she married Toivo Pensala of Waukegan, Illinois.
Patsy had a quick wit and enjoyed laughter, had great talent and rhythm, enjoyed polka dancing and played the accordion. She was an avid traveler and visited all 50 states.
Patricia is survived by a daughter, Vickie Krueger (life partner, Michel Orndorff); a granddaughter, Liisa (Ben) Cole; five stepchildren, with a loving bond with Linda, Peggy, Sharon, Dennis and Marvin; her sweetie pies, great-grandchildren, Lyla and Gabe; and very special friend of 20 years, Evert Kivi.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Toivo, on Aug. 11, 1995; two sons, Russell "Rusty" Nurmi, on Dec. 7, 2010, and Randall Nurmi, on June 15, 2017; a daughter, Susan Nurmi, on Jan. 14, 2021; and her son-in-law, Hugh Krueger, on March 14, 2015.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 27, at 1 p.m., preceded by visitation at 12 p.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1202 Putnam St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Sue Johnson officiating.
A committal service and interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
