Watersmeet looks ahead to summer school

WATERSMEET — The last day of school in Watersmeet isn’t until Friday, but district officials are gearing up for a busy summer of more education.

The district is planning an eight-week Summer Skills Camp. The summer school for all grade levels of kids who live in the district will meet Monday through Thursday. The day will begin with breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by class from 9 to noon, and lunch from noon to 1 p.m.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to provide the Summer Skills Camp and these two meals throughout this program as well as providing academic programs to enhance our students’ learning,” said a school spokesman.

The dates of the camp will be June 21-24, June 28-July 1, July 12-15, July 19-22, July 26-29, Aug. 2-5, Aug. 9-12 and Aug. 16-19.

Class offerings and teachers include: K-2 with Molly Allard and Jessie Ryskey, grades 3-4 with Rich Pallin, grades 5-6 with Brent Besonen (July 26-Aug. 8), grades 5-6 with Sue Zelinski (June 21-July 21), grades 7-12 only credit recovery with Tony Basanese, grades 7-12 special education with Mary Natzke, grades 7-12 credit recovery for English with Richard Chiochios, grades 7-12 credit recovery for science with Jay Horn, and grades 7-12 credit recovery for math with Charly Sartori. Classroom aides Kristine Hoessel and Ashley Erickson will also support the operation.

Parents are reminded that they will need to pick up their children by 1 p.m. each day.

Students who attend all four days of a week will receive a $25 gift card to Family Dollar each Thursday afternoon, said the spokesman.

Community Picnic

The Watersmeet Township School will host a community picnic on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Watersmeet pavilion. All are welcome.

The school will host a elementary awards program that afternoon at 2 p.m.

On Friday, it will be a half day of school with no lunch served. Buses will run at 11:35 a.m.
