Wakefield TOWNSHIP — At their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, members of the Wakefield Township Board of Trustees learned from Supervisor Mandy Lake that shooting noise originating in Wakefield Township has resulted in a complaint from a Wakefield city resident on neighboring property.
The problem already had been discussed at a June 28 meeting of the Wakefield City Council, wherein City Manager Robert Brown, Jr. had explained that the matter is out of the city’s jurisdiction.
Lake is also the Wakefield City treasurer and had attended that meeting.
At the city meeting, Brown had said that the property where the shooting occurs is on the corner of Londo and Zorich roads, directly off of Old U.S. 2 and southwest of Plymouth Lake.
At the city meeting, Brown added that he would consult the Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and would schedule meetings with affected parties as needed.
Lake told her board members on Tuesday evening that she has met with the person who complained, as well as with the subject of the complaint, but no resolution has yet been devised.
She added that she is in the process of seeking legal advice.
Board members also:
—Learned from Lake that a water quality report done by the city of Wakefield in the Indianhead Mountain area resulted with no violations. “Everything is at a normal range,” she said.
—Voted to approve payment of an annual insurance premium on the Wakefield Township Hall and its contents.
—Learned from Lake that the city of Bessemer has reported that a draft of its master plan is available for review on the city website. A related public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8.
—Received information from the supervisor regarding a dock improvement project at Black River Harbor.
—Voted to approve a resolution affirming the Gogebic County Hazard Mitigation Plan.
—Voted to accept Principles of Governing from the Michigan Townships Association.
The board’s next regular meeting will be on Aug. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in the Wakefield Township Hall. The public is welcome.
