Margaret 'Peggy' McKevitt

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Margaret "Peggy" McKevitt, 63, former Ironwood, Michigan, resident, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul, of complications from cancer treatment.

Peggy was born May 7, 1956, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Joe and Margaret (Gamble) McKevitt. She attended St. Ambrose grade school and graduated from Ironwood Catholic High School in 1974. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in clothing and textiles from Iowa State University in 1978 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul in 1999. Her focus was human resources, and she earned the certification of Senior Professional in Human Resources in the Society of Human Resource Managers in 2007. She was especially proud that her job allowed her to assist recent immigrants acclimate to the requirements of working in America.

She was a volunteer at Dress for Success Twin Cities, where, aside from her own style, she brought the inherited fashion sense of her mother, who owned The Vogue dress shop in Ironwood from 1938 to 1952.

Peggy was an avid reader and belonged to a book club for more than 25 years. For the holidays, she loved baking and sending cookies to her brothers and nephews. She enjoyed antiquing and decorating her home. In 2017, her kitchen remodel was featured in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Peggy had a large collection of hand painted American dinnerware, which she used to create beautiful table settings. She scoured shops and thrifts hunting for additions to her collection.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Joe (John) Perry, of Hyde Park, Massachusetts, Susan McKevitt, of St. Paul; her brothers, Owen and Steve McKevitt, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and three nephews, Eduardo and Marco Perry, of Hyde Park, and Paul Perry, of Charlestown, Massachusetts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved dog, Emily.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery (Block 51) in Ironwood with the Rev. Monsignor Jed Patrick officiating. Family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Luncheon to follow at the Elk & Hound.
