Dennis M. 'Denny' Blomberg

HURLEY, Wis. — Dennis M. “Denny” Blomberg of Hurley passed away on Sept. 14, 2021, at his home with his family present following a longtime battle with COPD.

He was born on May 16, 1945, in Ironwood, Michigan, to Arthur and Clara “Mickey” (nee Behrendt) Blomberg. He attended Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood graduating in 1963.

He was united in marriage to Mary Ann DeFerro on July 10, 1965. Together they had a son, Mark.

Denny worked at the White Pine Copper Mine for the majority of his career and also served as a mine inspector for MSHA. He received a certificate of completion from Gogebic Community College for building trades and worked in construction, masonry, logging and machining during his lifetime. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and the companionship of a good dog. He had a quick wit and was always willing to share a story or two.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clara “Mickey” Blomberg; a brother, Mark in infancy; parents-in-law, John and Enrica DeFerro; brother-in-law, Gerald Rooni; and his nephew, Mitch Rooni.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; son, Mark (Kristi); sister, Sharon Hedberg (Jim); brothers, Steve (Kathy) and Richard (Karen); sister-in-law, Kathleen Rooni; brother-in-law, John (Gail) DeFerro; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Thank you to Dr. V., Holly, and the staff at Aspirus for your care over the years. Special thanks to Mary, Paula, Natalie, and staff at Regional Hospice Services and Palliative Care. Because of your support, Denny was able to stay in his home until passing.

Private interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hurley. A celebration of Denny’s life will be held at a date to be determined in the future.
