Larry Gulan

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Larry Gulan, 84, of Ironwood, passed away in his sleep, as he wanted, on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021.

Larry was born on May 3, 1937, a son of Anton and Leone Gulan.

On May 16, 1964, he was married to Sally Jakeway, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Ironwood. He was a dedicated husband and enjoyed his life with Sally. They were married for 41 years. She preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2005.

Larry graduated from J.E. Murphy High School, in Hurley, Wisconsin, in 1955, then attending St. Norbert College. He was very active with his class and proud to be a graduate of J.E. Murphy. He was still a supporter of the Midgets and now the Northstars.

Larry worked for his father in the family logging business, White Pine Copper Company and Ironwood Area Schools. He was an active member of his community serving with the Knights of Columbus, Copper Peak Ski Flying Board, president of the Ironwood Area Booster Club, and a member of the Gogebic Country Club and Eagle Bluff Golf Course.

Larry was an avid fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers, but more than anything loved and supported his grandchildren. They were the apple of his eye. He was most proud watching them grow up and when they would come together for holidays, birthdays and the summer retreats. He enjoyed playing golf and working jigsaw puzzles, especially during retirement.

Larry is survived by three children, Pamela (Kent) Hayward, Katy, Texas, Cathy (Greg Kuklinski) Ansami, Ironwood, and Jeff (Debbie) Gulan, Weston, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Kayla (Nick) Thomas, Jacob Ansami, Megan (Andrew) Evanoff, Erin (Cody) Kivisto, Alec (Mariah) Gulan, Elisabeth Shows and Alex Erickson; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Anthony Gulan and Eugene (Kay) Gulan; his sister-in-law, Jennifer (Randy) Dahlbacka; two aunts, Carole Ozzello and Shirley Gulan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Isabelle and Roy Jakeway; a sister, Catherine; a brother, Jerome; two sisters-in-law, Martha and Jeanne; several aunts and uncles; and his beloved dog, Packer.

Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m., preceded by memorial visitation at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 108 S. Marquette St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Binu Joseph, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alec Gulan, Jacob Ansami, Nick Thomas, Andrew Evanoff and Cody Kivisto.
