Theodore Gregory Seid

ROCKLAND, Mich. - Theodore Gregory "Ted" Seid passed on to his next life quietly at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sept. 24, 2021. He would have been 93 in December and had been in failing health for some time.

Ted was born to Andrew and Gertrude (Walters) Seid on Dec. 20, 1928, in Rockland. He attended Rockland Schools, graduating with the Class of 1947. He served with the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952 in both Japan and Korea. He received the Army Occupation Medal, the Overseas Bar, the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Stars, and the Bronze Star.

He was united in marriage with Juanita Brown on April 21, 1956. Together, they raised their three children, Trudi, David and Mary. Ted and Juanita have six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Over the years, Ted worked for Bacco Construction as a truck driver, in the woods with his uncle, Jack Seid, at Excel-O in Detroit, underground and in the smelter at the White Pine mine, as a mechanic at the Ontonagon County garage, and at the U.P. Power Company, retiring in 1971 after 19 years. His preferred work life began after his retirement. He was employed by his son, David, doing construction, driving heavy equipment and plowing snow.

Ted was a member of the VFW Post 5600 in Ontonagon. He was the longest serving member of the American Legion, Post 92 in Rockland with 68 years of continuous membership.

Ted was a very shy man with an incredible sense of humor. The loves of his life were his family, his church and his garage.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Andrew; his brothers, Robert, Donald, James, Bernard and Lawrence; and his son, David.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Juanita; daughters, Trudi (Jeff) LeMieux and Mary (Guy) Kitzman; daughter-in law, Karen (Bob) Juntunen; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland. Visitation will be held for an hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ted Seid's name to the charity of your choice.
