Dewey Isaacson

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Dewey Isaacson, 84, of Ironwood Township, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2022, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Dewey was born at Grand View Hospital in Ironwood on Jan. 11, 1938, the son of Herbert and Melvina (Stoor) Isaacson. He lived in Ramsay until age 12, when his family moved to Black River Harbor in Ironwood Township. There he worked with his father and brother, Roy, on the family's charter fishing boat. After graduating from Luther L. Wright High School in 1956, he worked for the U.S. Geological Survey until he joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1958. He served at many locations during his 21-year career, taking his family on a career lifetime pursuit of adventure and exploration, making priceless memories along the way. "Chief Ike" retired from the Coast Guard in 1979 with a rank of RMCM (Radioman Chief Master) E-9. During his service, he earned many medals and accolades that Dewey would be too humble to ever share himself.

In 1959, Dewey was united in marriage in Ironwood with Mary Lou Collins. She preceded him in death in 1986.

Dewey was a hard worker who loved to mow a lawn or two, and worked diligently on his various projects. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, coin and stamp collecting, watching sports and westerns, and camping with his family.

Dewey is survived by his "Other Half," Linda; daughter, Rosanne "Rosie" (Greg) Corcoran; sister, Betsy (Curt) Slabaugh; granddaughter, Christina (Janelle) Corcoran; great-granddaughter, Layla Pierson; grandson, Kevin (Taylor) Corcoran; in-laws, Harry and Joyce Collins, Marie (Larry) Collins, and Dan and Tina Collins; and many nieces and nephews. The extended family includes his daughter, Sherie (Arthur) of Oklahoma; son, Michael (Palma) of Michigan; sisters-in-law, Diana (Gerald) and Shelia (Paul), both of Florida; and grandchildren, Charlie, Laura, Amanda and Lydia.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Melvina Isaacson; his son, William "Bill" Isaacson; six brothers, Ray, Richard, William "Billy," Robert "Bobby," Roy and John; father- and mother-in-law, Harry Collins Sr. and Frances Anna Collins; and brother-in-law, Larry (Marie) Collins.

Per Dewey's wishes, a private burial will be conducted this summer at Sunset Acres Cemetery in Ironwood Township, and Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls.

Please consider a memorial donation to Regional Hospice Services and Palliative Care. They are truly angels on Earth and we are extremely grateful for their loving care.

The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home of Ironwood to honor Dewey's legacy of life. You can leave a condolence or a tribute at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
