New mayor, alderpersons start their terms in Hurley

A sign for Hurley K-12 School marks the intersection of Range View Drive and 10th Avenue. The Hurley City Council granted approval on Tuesday to move forward with a road project for Range View Drive from 10th Avenue to the Hurley School District and from U.S. 51 to Range View and then west on Range View past the school to County D.

HURLEY - The city of Hurley's first female mayor, Joanne Bruneau, was sworn in at the full council meeting on Tuesday. New alderpersons Joseph Pinardi and Rita Franzoi, who ran unopposed for open seats on the council left vacant by departing mayor Jay "Budgey" Aijala and Steven Lombardo, also took their oaths of office at the meeting.

After doing this, the council held a restructuring meeting where they designated their official depositories as Associated Bank and Northern Estate Bank in Ashland. They also designated the Iron County Miner as the...
