GCC to hold graduation on Friday

IRONWOOD — Gogebic Community College will hold its 88th commencement ceremony at the Lindquist Student gymnasium on Friday at 6 p.m.

This will be the first in-person ceremony the college has held since 2019. The last two years, the college has held its graduation ceremony online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Graduates from 2020 and 2021 have been invited back to participate in Friday’s ceremony.

The college will be awarding approximately 180 degrees and certificates including: 36 Associate of Arts degrees, 43 Associate of Applied Science degrees, 14 Associate of Applied Business degrees, 11 Associate of Applied Technology degrees, nine Associate of Science degrees, 61 certificates of completion and eight occupational certificates.

The class of 2022 has 48 students graduating with high honors, meaning they have an overall grade point average of 3.75 or higher, and 30 students are graduating with honors with a GPA of 3.5 to 3.74.

The commencement address will be given by Marquise Slay, regional sales director for Oliver Companies in Duluth, Minnesota. Slay is a 2013 graduate of GCC. He was also a student athlete, playing for the men’s basketball team and running cross country.

President George McNulty will preside over the ceremony. Musical selections will be presented by the Gogebic Range Concert Band, under the direction of Dan Pitrone.

The ceremony is open to the public. The college will livestream the ceremony at gogebic.edu/Events/Graduation.
