Dewey L. Morrison

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Dewey L. Morrison, 98, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.

Dewey was born on Sept. 13, 1923, in Tula, a son of Henry and Esther (Hick) Morrison. He attended Wakefield High School.

In 1940, Dewey enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was honorably discharged in 1942.

In 1943, Dewey entered the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country during World War II in the Northern Solomon Islands. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

In 1947, Dewey married his sweetheart, Alice Veda, and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2000.

For many years, he worked at Connor Lumber Company, Sunday Lake Mine and retired after working 22 years at White Pine Copper Company.

Dewey was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions, he liked listening to classic Country music, watching Westerns and enjoyed hunting and fishing back in the "good ol' days."

In later years, one of his favorite pastimes was going out to eat with friends at his favorite restaurants.

Dewey is survived by his daughter, Sandy; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his dear wife, Alice; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Helen Veda; five sisters, Dorothy, Kate, Lorraine, Irene and Audrey; two brothers, Francis "Chum" and Clarence; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Dewey was always a quiet, kind and caring man, a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and an awesome dad!

The family would like to thank the staff at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility for their professional care and kindnesses given to Dewey during his stay.

We will surely miss him.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, May 12, from 10 to 10:45 a.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel, with the honor guard beginning at 10:30 a.m. Military rites will be accorded at 11 a.m., by the Wakefield American Legion Geroux Post 11 and Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 Honor Guard. A memorial service will follow the military honors with Leo Arnestad officiating.

Interment will take place at the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.

Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield, is assisting the family with their arrangements.
