Ontonagon Labor Festival looks back to normal after two years

ONTONAGON — The Ontonagon Labor Festival will be back looking like the festivals of old after two years of altered format because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival will celebrate its 66th year as the welcome to fall Sept. 2-4.

The Labor Day Committee in its first meeting of the year confirmed that Marty’s Goldenaires Drum and Bugle Corps will be back for the big parade and provide a concert.

The opening event, the Friday evening picnic at the marina hosted by the village, returns and will be augmented this year with fireworks over the Ontonagon River. Co-chairs Margo Anderson and Tanya Weisinger suggested viewing from the harbor.

Maxwell Street Day, on Saturday, will be packed with activity, including car show, craft and food venders, the kiddies parade, live music on the street and a kid’s block with bounce house, dunk tank and bubble machine.

Sunday will feature the Ed Hansen Run-Walk and the big parade. Several other new activities are expected, as well.

The Labor Day Committee has welcomed several new members to its ranks. Brady Guilbault, Kori Weisinger and Davanee Jensen have joined the committee.
