Grace Mariani

HURLEY, Wis. - Grace Mariani (nee Gregory), 92, of Ironwood, Michigan, passed away on May 16, 2022, peacefully at the Villa Maria Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.

Grace was born on Dec. 1, 1929, in Ironwood, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Hedwig (Raymond) Gregory.

She was married to Joseph Mariani on Aug. 25, 1951.

She was an excellent cook and always enjoyed cooking for her family. She was of Polish descent, but she could cook Italian dishes with the best of them. She made thousands of pizzelle cookies and gave them away. As a gentleman once said, "These are the best cookies in the world." She was also an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed watching the games.

Grace was a woman of great faith and a proud member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. She enjoyed attending Mass and receiving the sacraments.

She is survived by her sons, Gary, Greg (Dawn) and Dave (Lori); daughter, Annette (Joe) Allen; grandchildren, Becky (Randy) Shade, Jesse (Leah) Churchill, Mike Churchill, Madison Mariani, Taylor (Sean) Sarazen and Jake (Katie) Allen; great-grandchildren, Zayn and Zara Allen, Anthony, Brandyn and Cadyn Shade, and Kinsley and Jessie Jr. Churchill; and sister, Mary Jo Eplett. She is also survived by the Erickson family of Kingsford, Michigan, Bonnie, Bruce, Judy, and Morris who were always very nice to Grace.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph; her beloved daughter, Debbie; son-in-law, Rich; and two brothers, Bill and Jerome Gregory.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 24 at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood with Fr. Binu Joseph as celebrant, preceded by a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood, Michigan.
