Luetta Marie Beninghaus

MARENISCO, Mich. — Luetta Marie Beninghaus, 79, of Marenisco, Michigan, passed way unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau after a brief illness.

Luetta was born to parents George Wenz and Catherine (Codd) Wenz on June 20, 1942, in Bessemer Township.

Luetta attended Marenisco High School and graduated with the class of 1960.

Luetta was united in marriage to George H. Beninghaus until his death in 1995.

Luetta worked a variety of jobs until she found her true calling working as a CNA at Villa Maria nursing home and then Gogebic Medical Care until her retirement in 2007. Luetta decided that she did not like retirement and began working as a home health aide. She worked the last 14 years doing what she loved until her retirement in October 2021.

Luetta loved her family very much, especially her two granddaughters, Andrea and Kristy, whom she helped raise as if they were her own daughters. They will miss her tremendously.

Luetta had a love for animals and will be missed, especially by her spoiled rotten cats, Lucy, Stew and Baby.

Luetta was preceded in death by her parents, George and Catherine; her husband, George H .; and her sisters, Phyllis and Lois; and her brothers, James and Tom.

Luetta is survived by her sons, Todd, Potlach, Idaho, and George L. (Judy), Bessemer; grandchildren, Andrea Beninghaus, Minocqua, Wisconsin, and Kristy (Billy) Cole, Dallas, Georgia; stepgrandchildren, James Now, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Heather Now, Bessemer; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Wyatt Cole, Dallas, Georgia, and Oaklie Now, Bessemer.

She is further survived by sister-in-law and best friend, Sherry Miller, Marenisco; and close personal friends, Carol Anderson and Bonnie Hongisto; and many other family and friends.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 25, at 11 a.m., at the Marenisco Township Hall.

Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Cat Room at HOPE Animal Shelter, 510 Easy St., Ironwood, MI 49938.

Internment will take place in the Marenisco Cemetery.
