June 25, 2022

WHITE PINE, Mich. — Rietta Lynn Squires, 64, of White Pine, went to be with Jesus on June 21, 2022, at approximately 11 p.m. EDT, while at Wausau Aspirus Hospital.

She was born July 11, 1957, to Jay and Oleeta (Slocum) Whitman in Battle Creek.

After graduation from Battle Creek Central, she attended and graduated from Kellogg Community College and then Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Rietta enjoyed paying her piano, designing her ornamental gardens, fishing and rock hunting. What was most important to her, especially later in her life, was sharing how to be saved, through faith alone in Jesus Christ dying for our sins on the cross.

Rietta is survived by her husband, Paul, of 21 years of marriage; her children, Dennis Hantz and Jessica Hantz; sister, Dawn Cuyler; grandchild, Andrew Jay Hantz; nieces and nephews, Lavonne Pearson, Nick Whitman, Zack Whitman, Worden Cuyler and Nellie Cuyler; and great-nieces and great-nephews Morgan Milan, Dylan Reniger, Brooklyn Reniger and Harper Cuyler.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jay Whitman; brothers, Randy Whitman and Lonnie Whitman; and first husband, Dennis Hantz.

A service will be held on Tuesday, June 28, at 1 p.m., with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon. The burial will take place at the Green Cemetery in Green, immediately following.

Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
