Darrell Wayne "Tripper" Tripp

WAUSAU, Wis. - Darrell Wayne "Tripper" Tripp, 75, of Ontonagon, Michigan, and Grangerland, Texas, died peacefully on July 12, 2022, at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin.

He was born on July 18, 1946, in Rice Lake to Marilyn and Dale Tripp.

He married Nancy Harry on Nov. 18, 1967, in Tucson, Arizona. Their family grew with the arrival of two children, Tami and Shane. Tripper entered the United States Marine Corps in 1966. He served as a cook and baker feeding over 1,500 soldiers a day through 1969. He also cooked for the officers and their families at Camp Pendleton.

Tripper was an over-the-road truck driver for many years and had over 400,000 road miles under his belt. He was also a heavy equipment operator for Anaconda Copper Mine in Tucson for many years. He and his wife, Nancy, bought the Northwoods video business in 1997 and retired completely in 2008.

The "traveling Tripps" then hit the road and travelled from one side of the country to the other, including Alaska. They also made it to Canada and Mexico.

If you were blessed to spend time with Tripper, you might have fished, hunted or snowmobiled with him and heard some of his favorite stories. Like the time he got off work at the swimming pool company in Tucson and went to his favorite watering hole, where he was enjoying a beer with some buds, when John Wayne walked in and said, "Close the bar, the rest of you stay put, the drinks are on me."

Tripper is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Shane (Kristen) and granddaughter, Abigail; his granddaughters, Lexie and Sierra Renetzky (Tami's daughters); and by Brian (Kris) Renetzky. He is further survived by a brother, Dean (Deb) Tripp; sisters-in-law, Anne Harry and Carol Harry; brother in-law, Richard Yaklyvich and his special friend, Marsha Norby; by many nieces and nephews; and many special friends, including Melinda and Ray Skelton, Sheila and Bob Greaver, and Donna and Charlie Wilber.

He was proceeded in death by daughter, Tami Renetzky; by his parents, Marilyn and Dale Tripp; and by Nancy's parents and siblings.

There will be a celebration of life on Wednesday, July 20, at the Cane Funeral home in Ontonagon, Michigan.
