GCC welcomes new school semester

Ironwood - The Gogebic Community College board of trustees met in special session Tuesday to act on a number of staffing appointments before the beginning of classes for the fall semester on Monday.

The board approved Maryann DeCaire for the position of director of financial aid. DeCaire has a bachelor's degree in business from Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois. She has more than 30 years experience in financial aid.

Rozina Doss, who used to be a student at GCC, was appointed as a limited term grant coordinator. Doss has 19 years of experience in worker-owned cooperative businesses, according to information provided by the college. Doss graduated from GCC with an Associate of Applied Business with an accounting specialty.

Zackary Bowers was hired as a psychology instructor for the Houghton campus. Bowers has a Ph.D and master's degree in neuroscience from Central Michigan University and a bachelor's degree in psychology and biology from Saignaw Valley State University.

Glen Guilbault was appointed the position of director of off-campus operations at the GCC's Copper Country Center in Houghton. He has a master's degree in instructional leadership from Northern Michigan University.

Kobe Lorendo was appointed manager of the college's Campus Suites in Ironwood and has an associate degree in applied business from GCC.

Mariah Beaudette-Partanen was appointed as the administrative assistant to the vice president of academic services. Beaudette-Partanen attended GCC and transferred to Michigan State University, receiving a bachelor's degree in zoology.

The board also approved two resignations from the staff - one from Robert Dionne, nursing instructor, effective Aug. 15, and the second from Jackie Franzoi, career counselor, effective Aug. 26. The board authorized administration to begin searches for both positions.

In other action, the board approved the contract between GCC and the Copper Country Intermediate School District to teach early childhood classes in that area.
