June Laverne Roenicke

FREELAND, Mich. - June L. Roenicke, 86, of Freeland, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022.

She was born on June 29, 1935, in Ironwood, to John and Saima (Kleimola) Estola. June graduated from Michigan State University in 1957.

She worked as a medical technologist for 37 years in the tri-city area.

At MSU she met her husband, Frank Roenicke, who predeceased her in 2011. They were united in marriage on Aug. 17, 1957, and were married 54 years.

She and Frank enjoyed many family vacations across the country. June was the co-founder, along with her husband, of the Saginaw Landlords Association. June and Franke opened the Freeland Dairy in 1976. She was a long-time member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, active in its choir, women's group and was the church librarian. Her hobbies included reading, doing puzzles and playing cards. She loved her bridge club and was an avid fan of the MSU Spartans and the Freeland Falcons.


June is survived by her four children, Laurie (Brad) King of Plainfield, Illinois, Heidi (Scott) Cunningham, of Clarklake, Frank (Holly) Roenicke, of Freeland, and David Roenicke of Freeland; and five grandchildren, Alexis King, Jeff King, John Cunningham, Renata Cunningham and Tommy John Roenicke. She is also survived by a brother, David (Marlys) Estola, of Oregon City, Oregon.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Freeland. Rev. Julie Bailer officiated. Burial followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Freeland.
