The Fleming family of Gurney prepares for the first day of school outside the Hurley K-12 School Thursday morning. From left are first grader Jayger, fifth grader Eastyn, and second grader Avery, as well as parents Becca and Bill Fleming. They all agreed it was an exciting day. School administrators, standing behind, welcomed the students as they entered the building from school buses and private vehicles. Many students were accompanied by parents. District Administrator Kevin Genisot echoed the Flemings' excitement for the new year. He said he was pleased with the new staffing hires the district had made and called it the easiest run up to a new school year he could remember.
