Elizabeth A. Krone

HURLEY, Wis. - Elizabeth A. Krone, 89, of Hurley, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at the Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation, and Assisted Living Facility in Ironwood, Michigan.

Liz, or Betty as some referred to her, was born Dec. 27, 1933, to Frank and Theresa Slaski. Liz attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1951. She later attended Gogebic Community College.

On Oct. 24, 1953, she married the love of her life, Gustaf R. Krone, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Monsignor Prock officiating the ceremony. They shared 55 wonderful years together.

Liz worked various jobs throughout her life, including working for Michigan Bell Telephone, Astronautics, Mrofchak's Clothing Store, Carlson's Supermarket, and the Ironwood Daily Globe. Liz enjoyed being an active member of the community. She had participated in the Ironwood Jr. Women's Club, Hurley Library Club, PTA, Booster Club, Hurley Area Little League, Cub Scouts, Legion Lanes Bowling, and the Iron County Development Council.

Among the things Liz loved the most, camping at Crystal Lake with family and friends was at the top of her list, as was golfing at Eagle Bluff with her husband, Gus; and close friends, Tony and Rosalee Kutz. She would let you know the score - when she won.

She will be dearly missed by her children Kathleen (Thomas) Staack of Plover, Dan (JoAnne) Krone of Waukesha, Jeffrey (Joanna) Krone of Hurley, and Nathan (Christine) Krone of Hurley; her grandchildren, Peter (Shana) Staack, Luke (Molly) Staack of the Twin Cities, Jenelle Trepanier of Mukwonago, Tyler Krone of Hurley, Alina (Jake) Hedman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Nathan Krone of Hurley; as well as her great-grandchildren, Dalton Trepanier, and Elaine Rae, Elijah Thomas and Ezekiel John Staack. She will also be missed by close friends, Joseph and Kathy Osterman of Hurley.

Liz is also survived by a sister, Mary (Tom) Trudell; a nephew, Steve (Colleen) Trudell; and a niece, Terese Trudell.

Besides her parents, Liz was preceded in death by her mother-in-law; her father-in-law; her loving husband, Gus; and her grandson, Jamie Trepanier.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Westgate Nursing Home for the wonderful care they provided. Their support, kindness and professionalism were greatly appreciated.

In lieu of cards or gifts, donations may be made in Liz's honor to The Hurley Education Foundation, 5503 W. Rangeview Drive, Hurley, WI 54534.
