Emilia "Emily" Marczak

SUPERIOR, Wis. - Emilia "Emily" Marczak, 102, of Bessemer, Michigan, passed away peacefully at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior, on Oct. 19, 2022, with her family by her side.

She was born Nov. 9, 1919, to Andrew and Katherine Skulan. She attended Ondossagon High School in Ashland, and graduated in 1937.

On Sept. 28, 1940, she married Walter S. Marczak, and they enjoyed many years together until his untimely passing on December 28, 1996.

Together they built a home and had six wonderful children: Patricia, Mary, Wally, Jan, Terry and Sharon.

Her faith in Christ as a member of St. Sebastian Church in Bessemer helped to carry her through life.

She enjoyed the many times she went to the cottage on Lake Gogebic. Fishing was her greatest pastime, and bragging about the many fish she caught. Her passion was enjoying time with her grandchildren and teaching them the right way to fish.

She was part of the VFW auxiliary of Bessemer, including the Voice of Democracy.

Emily worked hard for many years as a waitress from the Totem Pole of Ironwood to Brown's Café in Bessemer, as well as the Powderhorn ski hill. She also worked for a time at Munsingwear in Ashland.

She is survived by: her son, Walter (Joyce) of Superior; daughters, Theresa (Charles) Tenlen of Superior, Sharon (Jeff) Abraham of Callahan, Florida, and Jan Valkama of Hurley; not to mention her 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and her four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in passing by her loving husband; both her parents; her twin daughters, Patricia and Mary (who passed in infancy); her two brothers, John and Ludwig Skulan, and her sister, Valerie Smith; grandson, Shawn; son-in-law, Donald Valkama; and finally her granddaughter, Monica Valkama.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place Nov. 4, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church beginning at 11 a.m. with a visitation immediately preceding at 10 a.m. With burial to follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.

The family would like to take the time to personally thank all the staff at Twin Ports Health Systems in Superior for all their wonderful care in the final times of Emily's life.

The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral of Ironwood to honor Emily's legacy of life. You can leave a condolence or a tribute at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
