Sandra 'Sandi' McManman

IRONWOOD, Mich. — Sandra “Sandi” McManman, 77, of Ironwood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022.

Sandi was born at home on Balsam St., in Ironwood, on March 26, 1945, to Nelma (Aho) and Allan Anderson. She attended Norrie Grade School and was a member of the Luther L.Wright High School class of 1963.

After high school, Sandi married her best friend and love of her life, Daniel McManman. They were married on Sept. 11, 1961, at the U.S. Navy Base Chapel in Norfolk, Virginia. They lived in Ocean View, Virginia until her husband was deployed overseas. She enjoyed her time as a Navy wife.

After Dan left the service, they moved to Bloomington and Savage, Minnesota. Their family grew by two boys.

In 1976, they moved back to Ironwood, where she began her work career at Munsingwear as a sewing machine operator. From that job she went to work at the Sears Catalog Store, the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store, Dunham’s Sports and then at the Community Action Agency as a personal care aide. Later, Sandi worked for Bresnan and Charter Communications as a customer service representative, retiring in 2008.

Sandi enjoyed retirement so much, focusing on television sports and political news programs. She was a lifelong Democrat. Sandi also liked to travel to play the slots at her favorite casinos with her husband, Dan.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Karen Allen and Shirley Gusman; her brother, Richard Anderson; along with a step-grandson, Jeffrey Kern; and several nephews and nieces.

Sandi is survived by her husband, Dan; her sons, Leonard (Carol) and Richard (Vicki); and four grandchildren, Cassandra (Logan), Diane (Evan) Schnitker; Laura (Jason) and Jack McManman. She is further survived by a step-granddaughter, Kayla (Rob) Becker; and step-great-grandchildren, Sofie, Isaac and Erik. Sandi is also survived by her many friends and wishes them all a fond farewell. “Thanks for the memories we’ll meet again.”

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 W. Midland Ave., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Nicole Hanson-Lynn officiating.
