Stanley J. Servia

BESSEMER, Mich. – Stanley J. Servia, 91, of Bessemer, a prominent retired longtime businessman died on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022.

He was born in Norway, Michigan, on Jan. 12, 1931, son of the late Joseph and Esther Servia and moved to Bessemer with his parents in 1946.

On Nov. 29, 1952, he was married to Loretta Tarnaski, also of Bessemer. They made their home in Bessemer and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 29, 2002.

In 1950, Stanley started at the Peterson mine and worked there until it closed in 1966. Stanley and Loretta started the Big Dollar Supermarket in Bessemer in 1970, which they sold in 1992 and retired.

Stanley was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer, also the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Bessemer Projects and Lions Club. He participated in many organizations throughout his business years.

Stanley enjoyed working in his business and the many friends he made through the years. He enjoyed spending his time with his friends on the golf course. Stanley especially loved spending time with his family and enjoyed his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Loretta; a son, Gerald Servia; and one sister, Lucille Gardner.

Stanley is survived by two sons and one daughter, Daniel (Judy) Servia, Michael (Jean) Servia and Carol (John) Schuster; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Andy) Warczak, Blair LaCoy, Matthew (Veronica) Servia, James Tannheimer Jr. and Elizabeth Servia; three great-grandchildren, Kolby, Wilder and Parker; one sister, Jean (Joe) Zychowski; and several nieces and nephews.  

A Mass of Christian Burial has been held.

Interment will take place at the Hillcrest Cemetery, in the spring.
