Audrey Catherine Jurmu

MILLERSVILLE, Md. - Audrey Catherine Jurmu (nee Maki), 87, of Millersville, Maryland, passed away on Feb. 24, 2023.

Audrey was born on July 20, 1935, in Bessemer, Michigan, to the late Ilmo and Hilda Maki. She graduated from the University of Maryland earning a degree in education. She retired from teaching at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Glen Burnie, Maryland, after 32 years of service. Both Audrey and her late husband, Russell, were also long time active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie.

Audrey enjoyed writing, traveling, spending time with her family and especially music. She could play the clarinet and the accordion by ear.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Russell M. Jurmu; and her brother, Erven Maki.

Audrey is survived by her loving daughters, Diane Jurmu Critzman and her husband, Bill, and Kathy Jurmu Dallman and her husband, Rev. Roger Dallman; cherished grandchildren, Stacey Paugh and her husband, Eric, Andrew Dallman, Adam Dallman, and Evi Hoy and her husband, Oliver; beloved great-granddaughter, Lydia Hoy; and dear sister, Karen Willing Mattson. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation and services were held in Maryland.

A celebration of lives service will be held for the two high school sweethearts at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield, Michigan, on June 30, at 12:30 p.m., followed by an old fashioned Finnish picnic, with traditional folk music at the new Sunday Lake Pavilion.
