IRONWOOD, Mich. - Evelyn Behrendt passed away on March 30, 2023, from complications of a stroke.
She was born on Feb. 28th, the daughter of Eugene and Ellen Ringwall. Evelyn attended Ironwood schools and graduated in 1954. She married Rod W. Behrendt on Aug. 6, 1955, and lived to celebrate their 67th anniversary this past summer.
Evelyn enjoyed several different jobs throughout her adult life. She was a people person and loved interacting with the public. She found her dream job when she started working with special needs children in the Ironwood area schools. She was not happy when the time came to retire, but had no problem finding ways to stay busy.
Evelyn traveled the country from Hawaii to Maine either with friends or her husband, Rod. She loved the arts and was a dancer and a dance instructor at Joe Von Drake's dance studio. She also participated in local theater events. She was passionate about shopping and enjoyed dressing in the latest styles. She was truly an "energizer bunny" who was always up for a new adventure.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Rod; and three children Kurt (Tami) Behrendt, Scott (Karen) Behrendt and Rochelle Clemens-Ludtke. Surviving grandchildren are Nathan, Tyler, Ashley, Jarrod, Bryson, Shaquille, Faith and Kinley. The three great-grandchildren are Liam, Lawson and Aryianna.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Ellen Ringwall; and her beloved grandmother, Helga.
There will be a graveside service at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
A little owl came to visit her son just a few days after her stroke. He knew an owl was a spiritual symbol and interpreted it as a sign from his Grandma and Grandpa that they were coming to meet her.
She is finally reunited with them.
The family wants to extend a special thanks to our neighbor and friend, Jerry Comprin. Jerry has taken care of Mom and Dad by cooking, cleaning, plowing, shoveling and baking special treats for them. He holds a special place in our hearts and has earned the title of their adopted son.
The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home in Ironwood to honor Evelyn's legacy of life. To make an online condolence visit McKevittPatrickFuneralHome.com.
