Margaret Marie (Tulppo) Fleming

ISHPEMING, Mich. — Margaret Marie Fleming passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

Born Margaret Marie Tulppo on Oct. 7, 1939, she was better known as “Sis.” Sis graduated from Ewen High School in 1957. She married Robert Floyd Fleming on June 14, 1958. They raised two daughters, Julie and Janice. They moved downstate for work in 1968, but rejoined family and friends in Bruce’s in 1973.

They enjoyed traveling with their 5th-wheel camper and visited most of the lower 48 states and Alaska. In the early 1990s, they bought George’s Bar and moved to L’Anse. They owned the bar into the early 2000s and made many friends.

After their retirement, they spent their winters in Foley, Alabama, and returned to the U.P. for the summer. After Floyd passed in 2011, Sis continued to travel back and forth.

In 2017, she was injured in a fall. In November, due to physical disability and advancing dementia, she moved to Marquette County medical care facility. She received excellent care until she passed away on April 8.

She was a caring, hardworking person, a great cook, and a wonderful wife and mother; everyone will miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rayno and Margie Tulppo; her husband, R. Floyd Fleming; her daughter, Julie Flemingsmith; and her brother, Michael Tulppo.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice Fleming, and son-in-law, Mark Williams; her sister, Alice Johnson; her brother, John Tulppo, and his wife, Mary; and her brother, Bob Tulppo, and his wife, Barb.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 26, at 1 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, south of Bruce Crossing. A luncheon will follow from 2 to 4 p.m. at Twilly’s Bar in Bruce Crossing.

The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home to honor the memory of Margaret. If you wish to express condolences, feel free to go to their website at mckevittpatrick.com.
